Nokia X6 review

W e have known the Nokia’s Xpress Music cell phones for a while, but now a new series, the Nokia X-series has been added to the assortment of XpressMusic mobile phones. This series is added next to the Nokia N-series handsets, which emphasizes multimedia, and the more business-oriented E-series. The new Nokia X-series phones are to optimize the user's musical experience. The first two models in the X-series are the Nokia X3 and the Nokia X6, that we are reviewing here. Nokia has also recently announced that it will provide free full navigation with the cell phones from now on. First they only provided a trial period, but they have put an end to that now. Nokia's OVI-maps can be downloaded for the Nokia X6, but also the N97 (mini), 5800 XpressMusic, 5230 and the Nokia E72 can be extended with the software. Full GPS navigation software is expected to be available to extend the number of new Nokia smartphones.

First impression of the Nokia X6 smartphone

Nokia X6 smartphone's packaging is blue and fairly simple. Nokia always has clearly different packaging for the diverse series. When we open the packaging, the phone is placed on top, in a cutaway. I expected a lot form the Nokia X6 phone, but the first impression was a bit of a disappointment. Somehow the phone feels cheap and is fairly thick. The front has a red line above and below, with a set of three keys under the screen, and above the screen the multimedia key is found, that we also know from the Nokia 5800. The back is simple and the camera has a protective case. The packaging also contains the data cable, the charger, the headset (one that wraps around the head), the instruction booklet and a software CD.

Menu of the Nokia X6 mobile phone

The menu is very familiar, as the Nokia X6 phone uses the Symbian operating system. Just as in the Nokia N97 (mini) and Nokia 5800, the Symbian software runs very smoothly in the Nokia X6. The active start screen has several hyperlinks and a key to show the keyboard on the screen. The menu can be accessed by pushing the button in the middle underneath the screen. A menu then appears with twelve icons. Next to the standard functions, the OVI-store and OVI-cards can be found in the menu.
